The World of Wine truly spans the globe.
Europe, the birthplace, continues to produce old world wine while using new technologies. Australia produces big, fruity wines that mirror its vast outback. South Africa creates wines with old world finesse meshed with new world strength. Asia is less known, but there are some exceptions in the Palestine and Middle East regions. South America continues to produce quality varietals that are worth experiencing.
Finally, we come closer to home with California, the father of wines in North America and Washington, considered the first-born son.
Washington wineries are popping up as fast as corks from a bottle. Woodward Canyon, Columbia, Covey Run, Dunham, L’Ecole are becoming well-known labels as well as Chateau Ste. Michelle and Columbia Crest and other wineries too numerous to mention. Different regions may produce the same varietals, but notice the subtle differences due to the different soil, climate, and growing conditions.
